Print Course Reserves

Physical reserves (e.g. books, DVDs) are not currently available. Physical materials need to be quarantined for 4 days before reuse, which prevents recirculation needed for print reserves.

Finding and Borrowing Course Reserve Materials

To borrow Course Reserve or other items from the Circulation/Reserve Desk, users must have a CUNY ID with a current validation sticker or stamp. Users must also know the Title of the item they wish to borrow. In addition,

  • A majority of reserve books and materials may be borrowed for two (2) hours and are restricted to use in the Library.
  • A small number of reserve books and materials may be borrowed for three (3) days, but may be borrowed only once per week with a three-day break between loan periods.
  • Only York College students, staff, and faculty may borrow personal copies that instructors have placed on reserve in the York College Library.

Finding and Borrowing Other Reserve Materials

Non course reserve items, or reserve items that are property of the library rather than of an instructor, may be searched through oneSearch in the Library's online catalog. These include library books, videos and CDs. This material may be searched by title, author or keyword.

Overdue Reserve Materials

  • For two (2) hour loans: overdue charge is 10 cents per minute, which is equal to $6.00 per hour. Please note: the fine for removing two-hour loan period reserve material from the Library is $40.00.
  • For three (3) day loans: overdue charge is $20.00 per day; after three days, the charge is $60 plus the cost of the book.

Bills for overdue fines may be obtained at the Circulation Desk. Fines are payable only to the College's Bursar Office. Reserve delinquencies may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges. A library stop will be placed on a student's record with the Registrar once a bill is generated for unreturned reserve materials. The library block will remain in place until the material(s) is returned, the overdue fine is settled or the replacement charges (for lost items) are paid.

Fines for overdue laptops are $15 per hour and and $.25 per minute period.

Reserves Desk Hours

The Circulation/Reserve Desk follow the hours of the library. All reserve material must be returned to the circulation/reserve desk 15minutes before the library closes.
